What Is BS 3632:2023?

BS 3632:2023 is the latest British Standard that defines the requirements for residential park homes and high-specification timber lodges designed for permanent or year-round occupation.

Published by the British Standards Institute (BSI) and effective from 30 September 2023, it replaces BS 3632:2015 and reflects the UK’s latest regulations on building safety, performance, and sustainability.

The standard covers everything from:

• Electrical and fire safety
• Structural integrity and materials
• Insulation and thermal efficiency
• Ventilation and moisture control

In short, it sets the benchmark for lodges that perform to the highest standard.

Why it matters more than ever

The most recent update to BS 3632 was driven by sweeping regulatory reform following the Grenfell disaster, which reshaped how building safety is approached in the UK.

The 2023 revision strengthens fire safety requirements and ensures that, should an emergency occur, occupants can escape quickly and safely. It also advances energy-efficiency standards, with improved thermal insulation, reduced heat loss, and better moisture control, supporting a more sustainable future for all.

Approved by the National Caravan Council (NCC)

Pinelog lodges are approved by the National Caravan Council (NCC). NCC is the UK trade association representing the entire supply chain for the UK caravan and motorhome industries including holiday and residential parks, manufacturers, dealerships, suppliers and service providers.

NCC uses the BS 3632 standard as the benchmark for approving residential park homes and lodges under its Manufacturer Approval Scheme. Achieving this standard requires us to meet stringent quality, safety, and performance standards, including:

• Build all residential park homes or lodges in full compliance with BS 3632.
• Undergo independent factory audits and product inspections to verify compliance.
• Demonstrate robust quality assurance processes and traceable manufacturing standards.

By having NCC approval, it provides independent confirmation that our lodges have been built to, and verified against, the BS 3632 standard.
