Case Study – A luxury, accessible Pinelog lodge at Dovestone Holiday Park

“At Dovestone Park we pride ourselves on customer service and wanted to be able to allow ALL our guests to enjoy a worry-free experience. This aligns with our ethos of creating a safe haven for guests with accessibility needs.” Sally Buckley, General Manager, Dovestone Holiday Park

Creating luxury timber lodges bespoke to the needs of holiday parks is the foundation of Pinelog. And it is this very reason why Pinelog’s lodges are ideal for holiday parks that require high quality, accessible accommodation that can meet the needs of less mobile guests and assisted wheelchair users.

One such customer includes Dovestone Holiday Park to whom Pinelog has provided luxury timber lodges for 10 years.

Based in the idyllic village of Greenfield in Saddleworth, the Park sits in an enviable location bordering the beautiful Peak District National Park. With its location and luxury timber lodge accommodation, and guest experience, it is no surprise that Dovestone Holiday Park is rated five stars on TripAdvisor.

With low availability of accessible accommodation in the area and committed to providing guests with the very best experience, Dovestone turned to Pinelog in 2023 to deliver its first two bedroom accessible lodge.

And with guests already booked for their first stay, there was no time to waste in designing and delivering Dovestone Holiday Park’s first accessible lodge.

The Brief

Recognising the rising demand for accessible family staycations, Dovestone Holiday Park engaged Pinelog Ltd to expand its accommodation offering for guests with limited mobility.

The brief was clear: create an accessible lodge to address the current shortage of suitable accommodation for guests with mobility challenges.

The Design Process

Ensuring the design of Dovestone’s lodges fully met the need of all users, Pinelog’s inhouse accessibility specialists, played a hands-on role in the design phase.

Pinelog’s team have worked alongside Darwin Forest Luxury Lodge Holidays, recently awarded Britain’s Best Holiday Park, to develop its popular range of Classic Vogue accessible lodges, which are designed for people with accessibility needs, including wheelchair access.

Paula Skelton, Associate Director and one of Pinelog’s inhouse accessibility specialists shared: “All our luxury accessible lodges are designed to Level M2 of the National Accessible Scheme (with Visit England) and are suitable for assisted wheelchair users. Recognising the demand for accessible accommodations, we take pride in not only meeting this need but the fact that we are able to tailor our offerings to cater to the unique requirements of individual holiday parks.”

Paula’s insider knowledge, hands-on experience and technical expertise was highly valued by the Dovestone Holiday Park team. She was available throughout the process to answer technical and operational questions.

Sally said: “At Dovestone Holiday Park, we pride ourselves on providing the very best guest experience, and this is exactly how the entire team at Pinelog operates. It was so refreshing to have a team as supportive as Pinelog on-hand. I know that I can ask any questions over the phone or via email and there is almost instantly an answer or solution for us.”

Accessible lodge features

The design focused on crafting a lodge that prioritised safety and comfort for families. Accessible features were incorporated in the design to ensure that all guests could use the lodges comfortably and safety.

Accessible design features included:

  • ramp access
  • wider doors
  • wheelchair accessible bedrooms
  • wet rooms designed for wheelchair access

Time Frame

A strict timeframe was in place as Dovestone required the accessible lodge to be fully operational in time for their first guests who were booked in to arrive at the end of 2023.

From design to delivery, the process took 4 months.

Pinelog’s efficiency and commitment was instrumental in the successful and timely delivery.

The Client’s Verdict

“We have had Pinelog luxury lodges at Dovestone for 10 years now.  They have aged incredibly well over that time and stood up well to the demands of holiday letting.  We are aware that there is a shortage of accessible holiday accommodation and therefore we are delighted to extend our range with this new lodge for families with limited mobility.” Sally Buckley, General Manager at Dovestone Holiday Park.
